File Quotas and Effective Strategies to Store Large Sets of Small Files

In this webinar, we will explore filesystem quotas on the Alliance clusters, focusing on how inode limits—much like disk space—are a finite resource allocated per user and group. Participants will learn best practices for managing file quotas, including strategies for using archival storage effectively. We will also address common issues such as inconsistencies in file ownership that can lead to “disk quota exceeded” errors. Finally, the session will highlight file formats like NetCDF and SQL BLOBs that offer efficient ways to store large collections of small files.
